Blitz leafletIt is 1940 and we see life in the Second World War through the eyes of East London families caught up not just with the nightly bombings but also the daily squabbles between adjacent market traders and the authorities ... yet they still have time for romance.

Our presentation of Lionel Bart’s Oliver! in 2013 won the NODA best musical and best production of the year in the local area covering most of Hertfordshire. This year’s show has the same author and director as Oliver! and we hope you will enjoy it equally when this new show explodes on the stage in May.

Broxbourne Theatre Company this week announced that its one night charity show A Few of our Favourite Things at Wolsey Hall in September has raised £2500 for Isabel Hospice in Welwyn.

The evening included music from 24 different shows and had a cast of 48, including 24 adults and 24 from The Young Set.

More than 200 people saw the show. The profits included ticket sales, income from raffles, sales and a bucket collection also held at the event.

Broxbourne Theatre Company is best known for its shows at the Civic Theatre in Hoddesdon. It is now rehearsing for the next, which is Sleeping Beauty with about 50 in the cast. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
December 2010

Broxbourne Theatre Company’s cast had a pleasant surprise when a West End star paid a visit to their rehearsal of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Lynsey Britton was in the cast of the original London production at the Dominion Theatre and played Belle for part of the run.

A former member of Jason Theatre School in Broxbourne, Lynsey first appeared as one of the Jason Kids in Broxbourne Theatre Company’s pantomimes and had also performed in several of their musicals before turning professional. Her other West End appearances have included roles in Cats, Carousel, Calamity Jane and as Adelaide Adams alongside Patrick Swayze in Guys and Dolls.

Discussing the rehearsal with the cast afterwards, she said it had brought back many happy memories of the London show and was looking forward to seeing the finished result when it opens in January.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is a show for all the family at Broxbourne Civic Theatre in Hoddesdon from 7th-15th January. Seats are still available for most performances but early booking is recommended. Full details are on the web site at www.BroxbourneTheatreCompany.co.uk
